The millennium of Christianization in the Ukraine is commemorated with this Christmas postage stamp. For exactly 1,000 years ago, the Grand Prince of this region in those days, Wolodymyr (Vladimir) the Great who was canonized by the church, brought Christianity to his country through his baptism. The postage stamp shows a Christmas icon from the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church of St. Barbara located on 8 Postgasse in Vienna. St. Barbara, tucked away within the large Postal Headquarters in Vienna´s downtown, represents a cultural and spiritual center for those Ukrainians living in Austria. The large holiday icon painted on wood depicts the twelve main feasts of the Christian Church and a larger picture of the resurrected Christ in the middle.
