Upper Austrian State Exhibition in Lambach - The Art of Graphics
900th Anniversary of the Monastery Church in Lambach

In the heart of Upper Austria, at the intersection of an important water and land trade route dominating the countryside on a gravel promontory, lies the Monastery of Mary on the northern bank of the Traun. The name Lambach was first mentioned in the year 798. Towards the end of the 10th century Count Arnold I of Wels/Lambach established a parish here in honor of the Holy Virgin Mary. On September 15, 1089 the first abbey church, a three-nave Romanesque basilica, was initiated by Bishop Altmann of Passau. The commemorative stamp depicts the work of an unknown artist (around 1639/40) from the record book of the Lambach seminary.
